Notepad is a simple text editor include with all versions of Microsoft windows that allows us to create, open, and read plain text files.

Simple type ‘notepad’ in start menu’s search field and hit enter to launch it.

Use windows shortcuts

1) Press Windows key + R to Get Run Dialog box, type notepad and hit enter to launch it.

2) The top of the window bar is called the title bar. It contains notepad’s “system icon” (top left corner), current file name, and system button.

3) The menu bar simply shows available menu’s header.

4) The middle of the window contains the text area where notepad loads the content of text files.

5) The bottom of the window shows the status bar.

 

Menu Bar

Menu bar have file, edit, format, view and help menu. Each menu has different commands.

 

File Menu

New(Ctrl + N)

Used for create a new file.

 

Open (Ctrl + O)

Used for open a file.

 

Save (Ctrl + S)

Used for save changes in a file.

Save as

Used for save a file with name.

Page setup

Used for setting a page like page size, orientation, header, footer, etc.

Print (Ctrl + P)

Used for print a file.

Exit (Ctrl + W)

Used for a close file.

Edit Menu

Undo (Ctrl + Z)

Used for reverse an action.

Cut (Ctrl + X)

Used for removing selected text and placing it in clipboard.

Copy (Ctrl + C)

Used for copy selected text and placing in clipboard.

Paste (Ctrl + V)

Used for paste text into your file from clipboard.

Delete (Del)

Used for remove selected text.

Find (Ctrl + F)

Used for find any word in file.

Find Next (F3)

Used for find word in next location.

Replace (Ctrl + H)

Used for replace any word with new one.

Go to (Ctrl + G)

Used for goto any line in file.

 

Select All (Ctrl +A)

Used for select all text file in a time.

Time/Date (F5)

Used for insert date and time in file.

Format Menu

Word Wrap

It is a future that forces all text to be confined within defines margins.

Font

Used for set font, font size, and font style.

View Menu

Used for display status bar.

Help Menu

Used for display help about notepad.
